Professional teeth whitening treatment is a great way to get back that attractive smile. Teeth whitening treatment relieves the precious pearls of stains from those many years of coffee, tea and tobacco. For up to 2 days after the teeth whitening treatment, the pores in the enamel remain open and are therefore prone to staining more easily. Here is a list of dietary instructions that must be followed for 1-2 days after the treatment.
Avoid fluids at extreme temperatures
Hot as well as cold liquids tend to change the temperature of the teeth thus allowing them to expand and contract easily. This permits the stains from the fluid to penetrate through the teeth thus causing permanent discoloration. Energy drinks and other carbonated drinks must also be avoided during this period. Replace caffeinated drinks with plain milk or sparkling water at room temperature.
Avoid foods with colour
Tomatoes, beets, carrots, chocolates and green leafy vegetables can also wait till the pores close down which eventually happens in the next two days after the treatment.
Say “NO” to alcohol and smoking
Patients must completely abstain from stain causing alcoholic drinks like red wine or dark beer and smoking for up to 48 hours after the treatment. The tannins in the wine and nicotine in the tobacco may cause intense stain to the teeth and must also be avoided in the long run too. Thus to enjoy a perfectly sparkling smile for a longer period of time, the frequency of these habits must be brought down significantly.
